Social Activism Club- Term 2

Written by Jihan Adnan Khan

Having immensely enjoyed conducting the Social Activism Club in term 1 of the school year, I decided to re-initiate it, this time individually.

The agenda was the same- discussing world issues such as gender inequality, climate change, and animal cruelty. Members of the club also got accustomed to various prominent social activists such as Malala and Greta Thunberg. However, this time around we faced another problem, the Coronavirus which then had not yet become an epidemic. All the children demonstrated a deep interest in this issue and we deliberated over various aspects of it such as its symptoms, the countries it has already spread to, and its potential to become a pandemic, which it eventually did.

Unfortunately, the 6 weeks that I had initially planned for the club were cut short to just 4 due to a lockdown being imposed on schools in Lahore because of the COVID19 Pandemic. However, I do believe that I managed to achieve my initial aims of enlightening the students with world issues and allowing them to become more open-minded and better IB learners.
